For most UK businesses with between 2 and 150 people, the Claude Team plan is the right place to start: $20 per seat per month on an annual plan, central admin and single sign-on, and no model training on your content by default. Enterprise adds the controls a regulated firm usually needs. And if Claude is going to run an automated process rather than help staff in a chat window, that is a job for the API, not a chat plan.
The harder question is not which plan, but what you are allowed to put into it when you handle client data. This guide covers both. Prices are in US dollars, exclude VAT, and were taken from Anthropic's pricing page on 8 October 2026.
The plans at a glance
Pro is for one person: $17 a month on an annual plan, or $20 monthly. Personal Pro and Max accounts can be used to train Anthropic's models unless the user switches that off.
Team is for groups of 2 to 150: $20 per seat per month on an annual plan, or $25 monthly. Premium seats, with five times the usage, cost $100 a month annually or $125 monthly. It adds single sign-on, central billing and admin, and no model training on your content by default.
Enterprise is for larger or regulated organisations: $20 per seat per month, billed annually, plus usage charged at API rates. It adds audit logs, custom data retention, role-based access, SCIM user provisioning and a compliance API.
The API is for automated processes and products you build. You pay per use, by model, and there is no model training on your data by default.
The point that surprises people most is training. If staff are already using personal Claude accounts for work, that alone is a reason to move them onto a Team plan.
Claude Team: the sensible default
Team gives everyone the full Claude app, including Claude in Microsoft 365 and Outlook, projects your team can share, and Claude Code, with one bill and one admin panel. You can mix standard seats with premium seats for the few people who use it all day.
What Team does not give you is the paper trail. There are no audit logs, no custom retention settings and no role-based permissions. For a marketing agency or a small consultancy that is usually fine. For a firm regulated by the FCA, it is often the first gap the compliance lead points to.
Claude Enterprise: when compliance needs evidence
Enterprise is priced differently: a $20 seat fee plus usage at API rates, so the bill depends on how heavily people use it and which models they choose. In return you get audit logs, a compliance API for monitoring, custom data retention, role-based access, SCIM, IP allowlisting and network-level access control. It is billed annually, with a self-serve route as well as a sales-assisted one.
If your compliance team needs to show who used Claude, on what, and how long that data is kept, Enterprise is the plan that lets you answer those questions.
The API: when Claude runs a process, not a conversation
The chat plans are tools for people. If you want Claude to read every incoming document, extract fields into your CRM or draft the first version of a client report automatically, you build that on the API. You pay per use, choose the model for each step, and control logging, retention and error handling yourself. Anthropic deletes API data within 30 days by default, and zero data retention is available by agreement.
This is where most of our client work sits: a chat plan for staff, plus a controlled pipeline on the API for the repeatable, high-volume work.
Is Claude GDPR compliant?
No tool is compliant on its own; your use of it is. What matters is what Anthropic commits to and what you send it. On Anthropic's side, the commercial terms that cover Team, Enterprise and the API include its Data Processing Addendum, and its business products do not train on your content by default.
On your side, three facts usually decide the answer for a UK firm. First, where the data is processed: Anthropic's own service runs globally, with a US-only option at a higher price, and does not currently offer UK or EU processing. Sending personal data to it is an international transfer, so you need the right safeguards and a transfer risk assessment.
Second, whether the data is really anonymous. Removing names is not enough. If your firm can link the data back to a person, it is still personal data for you under UK GDPR, even if the provider cannot identify anyone.
Third, whether you need the data to stay in the UK. Some firms have that as a policy or a client commitment. If so, Claude is also available through Amazon Bedrock, inside your own AWS account, where some models, such as Claude Sonnet 5.5, can be called in-region in London. Others are only available from London through routing that can leave the UK, so the model and setting matter. Our guide to using Claude with client data under UK GDPR compares the three designs that work.
Which plan should you choose?
Two to 150 people with no regulated client data in prompts: Team, and move anyone on a personal account across first.
A regulated firm that must evidence use and retention: Enterprise, plus a short internal policy on what may and may not go into Claude.
An automated process on documents or client records: the API, designed with masking, logging and human review, or Claude on Bedrock, called in-region in London, if the data must not leave the UK.
Not sure yet: start with Team for staff, and keep identifiable client data out of it until you have decided how the automated side will work. If you want a second opinion on that decision, our fixed-fee AI readiness assessment covers exactly this.
Quick answers
How much does Claude cost for a business? Team costs $20 per seat per month on an annual plan or $25 monthly, for 2 to 150 people. Enterprise is $20 per seat per month billed annually, plus usage at API rates. Prices exclude VAT.
Does Claude train on my company's data? Not on Team, Enterprise or the API, where training on your content is off by default. Personal Free, Pro and Max accounts are opt-out, so check what your staff use.
Can Claude keep data in the UK? Anthropic's own service does not currently offer UK processing. Through Amazon Bedrock, some Claude models, such as Claude Sonnet 5.5, can be called in-region in London inside your own AWS account.
What is the difference between Team and Enterprise? Enterprise adds audit logs, custom data retention, role-based access, SCIM, a compliance API and network controls, and charges usage at API rates on top of the seat fee.
